In this video, Pastor Dhati Lewis tries to explain how Christians, like sports team, can just copycat each other rather than pursue holiness.
The video is above and the entire transcript is below.
I wanna encourage you to explore this process without falling into the trap of copycat Christianity.
We see this same pattern in sports all the time. Every year, after the NFL season ends, I know two things will happen. First, a champion will emerge. And second, all the other teams will try to copy the champions. If the champions won because they were a defensive-minded team, then the other teams will work on defense. If the champions won because the offensive attack was fast-paced, then the other teams will work on becoming quicker on offense. And if the champions won because they had an elite superstar, then the other teams will try to recruit an elite superstar. Everyone seems to think, if they mimic the champions, they will get the same results.
We do the same thing in ministry. We live in a time where we watch our champions and mimic them, hoping to get their results. We look at the great leaders and try to figure out all that makes them successful so we can emulate their lives. But we fail to realize that it is the sovereign providence in the grace of God that made them who they are.
