We hear that we are to run the race with endurance and that there is a race. And yet, if you are like me, we are still enduring. I haven’t yet finished my race. I’m still running the race. How do we do it? How do we run the race with endurance and not give up and not lose hope?
One of the things that I think is really important is to make sure that we’re staying in God’s Word and remembering what He says is true. So I do believe that spiritual disciplines are important to running this race with endurance. How can we remember what God has said if we’re not reading and reminding ourselves of the truth?
It reminds of, I believe it’s Psalm 103: “Forget not His benefits.” We don’t want to forget all that God has done for us. Yes, He’s done it for us. Amazing.
We need to remind ourselves of the truth of the gospel. We need to remind ourselves of the character of God and Who God is. That He’s never going to let us go. That He has an everlasting love. And that He’s going to see it to the end. That’s what Jesus promises us, that He who [started] a good work is going to complete it.
We need reminders of that and the only for us to remind ourselves of that is to get in God’s Word. We also want to pray to God. Ask God to help remind us. We can’t do this on our own, but we have a Helper, the Holy Spirit, Who has come to help us remember this truth. So ask God to do what only God can do. Help you to endure to the end and give you the faith to believe it.
